Media Spews Fake Headlines After Glenn’s Weekend Interview

Glenn joined John Ziegler with Mediaite for a podcast interview this weekend. Ziegler called it fascinating and important, urging people to listen to the entire 40-minute interview “if you care even a little bit about our dysfunctional media machinery and broken national dialogue.”

Equally fascinating were the headlines used by major media outlines and social posts following the interview.

“I’m fascinated by how the media portrayed this. How the headlines changed,” Glenn said.

Here are a few of the misleading headlines published in the media:

Beck Talks About Trump
Beck Takes on Trump
Beck Talks Trash About Trump

Interestingly, Glenn didn’t talk much about Trump and blamed many problems on himself.

Glenn had three takeaways from the experience:

1. Being grateful for an interesting and intelligent interview — because they don’t happen often.
2. Many headlines didn’t reflect the interview at all, focusing instead on red meat.
3. Many people commenting on social media clearly hadn’t listened to the interview.

“We say we think that the media is horrible, and they report fake news, and we don’t know the truth because of them . . . they’ll never report the truth. Well, none of us are either,” Glenn said. “Because if you’re commenting on something that you haven’t read, if you’re commenting on something that you haven’t listened to . . . how can you possibly know what that story is about? You can’t. And we’re all spouting off like we know everything. When in reality, all of us know nothing.”
