Raleigh Is One of 20 Cities For Second North American Headquarters

Amazon has narrowed the list of cities to host it's second headquarters in North America to 20, down from the 238 that submitted proposals... and Raleigh is still in the running!

The folks at USA Today report that the Amazon used specific criteria to pare down the list. They're saying that the winning city must "be in a metropolitan area with more than 1 million people, have a "stable and business-friendly environment," and be in "urban or suburban locations with the potential to attract and retain strong technical talent."

The other cities still under consideration include: Atlanta, Austin, Boston, Chicago, Columbus, Dallas, Denver, Indianapolis, Los Angeles, Miami, Montgomery County (Maryland), Nashville, Newark, New York City, Northern Virginia, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Toronto, and Washington DC.

The company has vowed to spend $5 billion and employ 50,000 workers in the city where the new headquarters is built. The tech giant expects to add $38 billion to the local economy, while creating an additional 53,000 non-Amazon jobs.
