Toys 'R' Us Set To Make A Comeback With New Stores Opening This Year

Family Shopping at Toys 'R' Us

Toys "R" Us is planning a comeback, just in time for the holiday shopping season. According to a report by Bloomberg, the company is planning to open six stores and an e-commerce site, though the new stores will be much smaller than the big box stores which were forced to close last year.

A person with knowledge of the company's plans told Bloomberg the stores will be about 10,000 square feet and feature play areas and other interactive experiences. The stores will operate on a consignment model, allowing them to return unsold merchandise.

They expect to open six stores in the fall, and could open more in the future if they are successful.

Toys "R" Us is owned by Tru Kids, Inc., which is being run by Richard Barry, who has been leading the push to resurrect the iconic toy store. The company says they are not ready to publicly discuss their plans for opening new stores in the U.S.
