Routine Traffic Stop Leads To 3 Kilos Of Cocaine, Golden Gun

A Texas man was arrested after a traffic stop in Port Arthur and multiple follow-up searches led to the discovery of $44,000. 6.6 lbs of cocaine, a rifle and a gold-plated handgun last week.

Humberto Anteverde was arrested and charged with manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance, 12NewsNow.com reports.

Initially, police discovered a bundle wrapped in plastic containing a powdery white substance later proven to be cocaine during the traffic stop, which included Anteverde giving verbal consent for officers to search the vehicle.

A follow-up investigation led to police searching two residences, one in Port Arthur and one in Bridge City, which yielded $44,000, a rifle and an additional 4.4 lbs of cocaine.

Port Arthur Police released the following statement obtained by 12NewsNow.com in relation to the case:

"On September 16, 2021 at approximately 9:18am, a Port Arthur Police Officer conducted a traffic stop in the 2000 block of Woodworth Blvd., in reference to a vehicle speeding. When the officer approached the vehicle, the driver appeared very nervous. The officer received verbal consent to search his vehicle, and a plastic wrapped bundle containing 2.2 lbs. (1 kilo) of a solid white powdery substance believed to be cocaine, was located inside the vehicle."

Police also discovered the gold-plated pistol at the Bridge City residence, which was taken into the department and logged as evidence.
