Fountains Of Wayne Singer Adam Schlesinger Dies From COVID-19 Complications

Adam Schlesinger has died due to complications from COVID-19. He was 52 years old.

The Fountains of Wayne singer passed away Wednesday morning (April 1), Variety confirmed. Yesterday (March 31), it was reported that the musician had been put into a medically induced coma and was on a ventilator in an upstate New York hospital.

Aside from being the voice behind the Grammy-nominated song "Stacy's Mom," Schlesinger also wrote music for television, film, and theater. His resume includes everything from Crazy Ex-Girlfriend to That Thing You Do to the theatre production Cry-Baby: The Musical and was nominated for Oscar, Tony, Grammy and Emmy awards during his prolific career, taking home the latter two awards. In 2012, he won the Grammy for Best Comedy Album for his work on A Stephen Colbert Christmas. In 2018, he won the Emmy for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics for the Crazy Ex-Girlfriend song “Antidepressants Are So Not A Big Deal.”
