As of 5:45 a.m. Friday, the power outage totals in eastern North Carolina surpassed the 100,000 mark according to Duke Energy's power outage map. Outages started popping up when heavy rain and strong winds from Hurricane Florence arrived later in the day Thursday. The highest numbers were in New Hanover County, which hosts Wilmington.
Here are some of the power outage numbers from the state's coastal counties:
- New Hanover County - 49,551
- Carteret County - 24,678
- Craven County - 15,155
- Onslow County - 13,813
- Pender County - 10,653
- Brunswick County - 7,323
