PNC Arena To Transform Into Mass COVID Vaccination Site

Wake County is set to open its third mass vaccination site, this time at PNC Arena. Starting February 11, the venue, which is the home of the Carolina Hurricanes and NC State University men's basketball team, will begin offering over 2,000 drive-thru vaccination appointments in the parking lot.

"PNC Arena is a community asset," said Thomas McCormick, Centennial Authority Chairman. "As owners of PNC Arena, we are happy to work with our partners, Carolina Hurricanes and NC State University, to support the needs of our community when called upon."

The 8,000-space lot outside PNC Arena will transform into a drive-thru, appointment-only clinic for people in the area to receive a coronavirus vaccine. According to ABC 11, the site will begin operating two days a week, inviting more than 2,100 health care workers and residents over 65 who are on Wake County's vaccine waitlist. The future of the site and number of vaccinations will depend on the allotment of doses North Carolina continues to receive.

"We are proud to be a part of this community and recognize the heartbreaking impact this pandemic has had for so many of its citizens," said Don Waddell, president of the Canes and PNC Arena. "PNC Arena has ample space to serve as a mass-vaccination venue, and we want to do everything we can to help Wake County in its fight against COVID-19."
